NAMI
The local chapters of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and the Mental Health Association have joined locally in a unique and rich collaboration to help families access resources and support services. These services include:
Education, Support and Referral in English and in Spanish: The Mental Health Association’s Family Advocates help families access the care they need for their loved ones.
Family Support Groups are led by the Advocates for families who are in crisis. View schedule
Monthly NAMI Educational Meetings: Excellent speakers provide information on such topics as treatment, housing, public assistance, medicines, mental health services, new developments in research, public policy issues and many other topics families want to know more about.
NAMI's Free Family-to-Family Classes: The 12-week course is offered twice each year, providing detailed information about symptoms and medications, treatment options, communication skills, family coping skills, and much more. More info View schedule
Access to Skilled Caregivers: Family members meet local psychiatrists and other mental health professionals who come to speak at the NAMI meetings each month. These professionals answer questions and describe local mental health resources.
Empowerment: Family members grow in skill and confidence in meeting their challenges.
